SALT LAKE CITY (October 19, 2026) — The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) has begun updating its Strategic Long-Range Transit Plan, UTA Moves 2055, and is inviting community feedback to help shape the plan. The update comes as Utah continues to experience rapid growth and changing travel needs and builds on UTA Moves 2050, the strategic long-range transit plan adopted in 2024. That plan established strategies to maintain and enhance the existing transit system, increase service frequency, and expand transit access in growing communities. UTA Moves 2055 will revisit those priorities and account for changes in growth, funding, and community needs on 5-, 10-, 20-, and 30-year timeframes.
“Long-range planning helps UTA prepare today for how Utah will move tomorrow,” said Jay Fox, executive director at Utah Transit Authority. “As our region grows and community needs change, input from the public and our partners will help us understand what is working, what needs remain and which transit investments can make the greatest difference.”
UTA Moves 2055 will identify opportunities to make transit more reliable, effective and accessible while improving connections to schools, jobs, community resources, recreation, and essential services.
The new plan will help guide and prioritize transit investments over the next 30 years and will be shaped through collaboration with riders, residents, communities, and regional partners. Public input, regional transportation plans, growth forecasts, financial considerations, and other data will help UTA evaluate current priorities, identify emerging needs and develop recommendations for the future transit system.
How To Get Involved
The public is invited to participate in the first phase of engagement by providing comments on the UTA Moves 2055 transit network map and Utah Statewide Transit & Human Services Transportation Study survey, available through November 30, 2026. The public is also encouraged to attend the UTA Moves 2055 online open house at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20.
