Paying Your Fare on Bus

UTA buses use the same electronic fare system that is used on UTA trains. Each bus entrance has an electronic card reader where you can tap a FAREPAY card or electronic pass when you enter the bus and tap off when you exit.

If you are paying by cash, make sure you enter at the front of the bus. Insert your fare into the fare box next to the driver, then take a seat.

If you wish to purchase your fare with a credit card, you may do so on the Transit Mobile Ticketing app. Find and download the app from any of the usual app store locations.

A couple of things to remember:

  • Make sure you have exact change because our drivers cannot make change.
  • Have your money ready before you board.
  • If you need to transfer to another bus or TRAX, get a transfer slip from the driver. This is your only proof of fare when you make your transfer. Transfer slips are only good for two hours after your initial ride.
  • If you transfer from the bus to FrontRunner, ski buses, Paratransit or Express buses, you will need to pay additional fare or purchase an upgrade ticket.

Paying Your Fare on FrontRunner

A valid ticket or FAREPAY card is required before you board FrontRunner. To purchase a ticket, use the ticket machines located at each FrontRunner station. These can be found near the entrances to the station platform or on the platform, depending on the station. Cash (bills and coins) and debit/credit cards are accepted at ticket machines. Ticket machines accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. Your ticket will be automatically validated with the date and time when you purchase it from the machine. You may purchase one-way or round-trip tickets. Make sure to keep your ticket until after you have completed your journey.

FrontRunner tickets are valid for transfers to TRAX, S-Line and bus service up to two hours and thirty minutes when purchased at a TVM. Tickets purchased through FAREPAY have a transfer window of two hours from the initial tap.

If you ride FrontRunner using an electronic fare card such as FAREPAY, Eco Pass, Ed Pass, Student Pass or other pass, be sure to tap it on a card reader at the station platform. Then tap off when you reach your final destination station. Remember to tap on again if you transfer to TRAX, S-Line or bus.
